The Jewish Federation of Reading is the planning, coordinating and fund raising arm of the Jewish
community. The Federation raises and allocates fluids to the United Jewish Appeal, various national and international
Jewish organizations and to local Jewish programs and organizations.
The Federation, through its Jewish Family Service Department funding, provides financial assistance to those in
need, transportation for the elderly, Kosher Meals-on-Wheels and counseling services. In addition camperships are
given to youngsters needing financial assistance to attend Jewish day camp or overnight camps. Scholarships are
provided to high school students wishing to participate in Summer-in-Israel programs.
In addition, the Federation, through the Jewish Educational Committee, provides subsidies to local Jewish organizations
to provide new, dynamic, cultural, religious and social programs.
The Federation Community Relationship Council is charged with representing Jewish interests to the general community;
working with bodies such as the various education boards. It is also organizing an annual Young Leadership training
program to provide training for future officers of the various Jewish organizations. The Federation publishes Shalom
a monthly newspaper.
Finally, the Federation provides funding for the Holocaust Library
Center based on the Campus of Albright College and also supports the local Hillel
at that institution..
