Smoke Salmon the best dish you will ever eat. I asked the Chef and they smoke their own salmon, served with vegetable pancakes and caper butter. My ultimate favorite dish there, after I have the Calamari for appetizer. No one makes calamari like the Black Dog Cafe. |

We tried the Black Dog Cafe. My husband had the Frogs Legs and I, the Escargot, both were good. Salad was standard as was the bread. Lobster was OK, crab cake was all filling. Wine list is standard, in fact, they did not have most of what was on the list. Nice place for a quick dinner, but not a special occasion. It is more a bar than a restaurant. |

After hearing the name "Black Dog Cafe" from a friend of mine while asking if I knew wherre it was located, I said I heard of it but was not sure so I went to the internet and looked it up. I was amazed at what I saw there; an awesome web site. I e-mailed Jeff as asked some questions and then made a reservation, I MUST say the best move I made in a long time. We went there Saturday night and it was outstanding. The waitress we had was so wonderful and pleasent as was everyone who was working there. The food "OH MY GOD" it was GREAT. The admosphere to me had a touch of Germany for us Pa. Dutch folks and the German Imported beer top notch. From the time we walked into the place and until we left, nothing but "WONDERFUL". Please come and give it a try, you will absolutely love it. Jeff, thank you so much for a great cafe in our great area. JMH |

When we want a truly interesting and delicious food in Berks County we ALWAYS go to the Black Dog. The food has never been ordinary and has never let us down. The shrimp night is spectacular and the service is always friendly and fast. Prices are a bit high for the area but so very worth it because the food is so good. We go often because we want to try everything on the menu! |

So perfectly and lovingly prepared, with a healthy dash of adventure and unusual. Love the hachet in the door- what else for a handle! And some great brews too! Call ahead if you want a seat anywhere but the bar on Fri and Sat. A gem in the far corner of Berks, Stouchburg- a last vestige of non-franchised individuality. Never had a bad bite at this place. |

Unbelievable, The food here was wonderfully presented in an historic building in the often passed little town of Stouchsburg. You walk into the bar and as the door closes an axe handle passes by you for the door handle. The food was delicious, I had the "black dog steak", a steak covered in cheese and peppers. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner/chef who used to be the exec chef of the lantern lodge. If you miss this "diamond in the rough", It's your'e loss, because the place is always packed. I highly recommend two things. One is the black dog cafe. Second make reservations. |

As you are probably well aware, the restaurant situation in Berks is very dynamic. New restaurants open and old restaurants close on a regular basis. We need your help keeping this restaurant listing up to date. If you know of a new restaurant that isn't on our list, or a listed restaurant that has closed, we would appreciate it if you would let us know. Thanks!! |
