Best crab cakes in the area. Maryland-style with little filler. Burgers are good too. Pizza is gourmet-style and not what a good PA pizza is like. Still friendly atmosphere, multiple TVs. Would recommend as a nice neighborhood bar. |

My husband and I ate at Chef Alan's this week. The service was horrible! You could never find the waitress for anything. She never refilled our sodas. She only asked how our dinner was AFTER we finished eating. My husband ordered his steak well done and it was red and bloody. We couldn't find anyone to take it back. We finished the rolls, paid at the desk (didn't wait for the waitress to bring us the check) and left. We will never go back there again. On a better note... I have ALWAYS had the best of service and food at their location in the Fairgrounds Square Mall. |

Just recently I went to Chef Alan's with some friends. The food was decent. Everyone in the group seemed relatively pleased with their meals, but the service was horrible. I felt like I was in a college diner by the way the servers acted. |

Chef Alan wasn't there when my husband and I dined there. Please believe me when I say this, everything from the drinks to desert was the most excrutiating, hopefully free of cantamination (maybe a spelling error), does not make up for the fact of their awful service and place. I highly recomend McDonald's over this place! Sorry, but I do. |

I'm very sorry for anyone who may have a horrific experience at Chef Alan's American Bistro. I myself, and I'm sure many others can agree that this restaurant is one of the finest Berks County has to offer. Originality, combined with great food and service equals a pleasureable visit every time. It's unfortunate, but also very true that some people should not step through the doors of anything "BUT" a McDonald's, their business is more welcome at home by a Campbell's Soup can. "1" person out of 100 may complain about Chef Alan's, when it comes to people like that, perhaps, they should review themselves before venturing out of their caves. As a lifelong citizen of Berks County I'd like to say thank you Chef Alan's, and I appreciate everything you have done for our community. Keep up the good work. |

I would classify Chef Alan's as one notch above a diner. I do eat here occasionally and the food is not bad and not real expensive either. It is not fine dining but it doesn't suck. |

I heard a lot of hype about this restaurant, and one day my friend and I stopped in for a late lunch. The service was slow, the food bland and far too expensive for the quality of the meal. My friend ordered a pasta dish, I ordered a combination of chicken and steak, and we split a crab dip appetizer. The crab dip was probably the best part of the meal; my friend's pasta was lukewarm and had barely any meat in it, and my chicken breast tasted like something out of a freezer meal. If you have to choose a restaurant in that area, I suggest trying one of the Asian restaurants in the City, which are about the same cost-wise and much, much better when it comes to flavor. |

As you are probably well aware, the restaurant situation in Berks is very dynamic. New restaurants open and old restaurants close on a regular basis. We need your help keeping this restaurant listing up to date. If you know of a new restaurant that isn't on our list, or a listed restaurant that has closed, we would appreciate it if you would let us know. Thanks!! |
