Food was mediocre, drinks overpriced, servers look unkept and are forgetful. Most of all, I did not appreciate the floor show literally. I was unfortunate enough to see two mice running around on the filthy floors - old food and peanut shells combined. A s |

My wife and I recently ventured to the city of Reading to dine at one of thier biggest landmarks, the Peanut Bar. In a nutshell, scam. This is a crappy bar with crappy food. Maybe to the freaks, drunks and mutants of Reading this is something special, but if you are a normal human being with a clue you will be disgusted. Avoid! |

If you like dingey dirty dining then this is the place to go. Hasn't that shells on the floor thing been done like everywhere forever. This place is a landmark like Fritz's island is. The food quality is really not to good, It's edible... but any comparisons to the Sahara are insane. For dining in this price range(or less) go 2 blocks up the street to the Ugly Oyster, or try the Sahara, AAshiyana, Judy's or the Speckled Hen... all in the same area and better! |

One of my favorite restraunts. I haven't had a bad experience there yet. The variety is great. Their specials are usually excellent and usually exotic. The regular menu has great basics and at resonable prices. Their Taste of the Middle East is good enough to compete with the Sahara next door. |

What's the deal with this place? I was told by some friends that when I go to Reading make shure I hit the Peanut Bar. I don't get the joke. This place is absolutely a dump. Food- blah, drinks-$$$. Landmark???? |

I, myself, actually like a flash back to better times. Upon visiting family, my request was the Peanut Bar. This time, MY family was with me. Same coloring contests, same shells on the floor, same family welcome. I was very impressed with the food. Well, actually, an appetizer came out luke warm, but it was quickly remedied, and was delicious. I did not witness any RETARDED waitresses, but if so, the old restaurant welcomes all who love this city. Can't wait to come back. |

These waitresses at this place are retarded. Slow and forgetful. The food is average to below average and overpriced. This place looks like someones basement bar circa 1972. |

With the proliferation of very average restaurants requiring you to stand in long lines for what feels like an eternity only to experience mediocrity at it's worst, the Peanut Bar represents a very refreshing alternative with an ambiance and style that harkens back to a better time. Offering everything from Fillet Minion to meatloaf and "Mom's" salad, the menu is comprehensive, but not so long as to require hours to digest. . .pardon the pun. They have a daily list of specials, but I'm particularly fond of their Maryland crab cakes - the tastiest crab cakes I've ever had, and I've had them from just about everywhere. And, don't forget about the wings - Reading's best. The food presentation is basic, but the ingredients and preparation quality are excellent. The service staff is friendly and knowledgeable, so be sure to ask for their recommendations. And for desert. . .Crème Brule of course Bon Appetit |

The Peanut Bar is Reading's greatest restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is FUN. Where else can you still toss peanut shells on the floor? It's Reading's version of CHEERS! |

This place is totally overrated. The food is ok and not priced too expensive the they rock you for the booze. Also, the wait staff is generally unfriendly and rude. Dodge the bullets in Reading and go elsewhere. Tourist Trap. |

Instead of writing a lengthy review, I'll just ask the following question: What in the world has happened to the Peanut Bar (in terms of service and especially in terms of the quality of the food)? |

I have lived in Berks County all of my life..and all of the Peanut Bar's life...after some disappointing visits several years ago...I returned...and the Peanut Bar is better than ever...great food...attentive management...and amazing desserts...if anyone visits from out of town I take them in town to OUR landmark. |

It's a shame to have to say this place sucks... but it does. I have been here many times because my wife likes their wings,as do I... when they're not gross that is. They are usually great, which is why we kept going back... but too often you get some real scankers and the last time I got food poisoning. They have a good beer selection but too expensive for the dumpy kind of place that it is... and what's with that wacky bartender...(definetely fell between the crib and the high chair). I question their cleanliness. Bear in mind when you're traipsing through the week old peanut shells... cock roaches go "crunch" too. |

As you are probably well aware, the restaurant situation in Berks is very dynamic. New restaurants open and old restaurants close on a regular basis. We need your help keeping this restaurant listing up to date. If you know of a new restaurant that isn't on our list, or a listed restaurant that has closed, we would appreciate it if you would let us know. Thanks!! |
