Back to Tint Laws In PA Homepage Discussion Board

The following tint is ILLEGAL IN PENNSYLVANIA!

IF YOU HAVE ANY TINT LIKE THIS ON YOUR CAR

Remove it immediately because...

1) It is prohibited by the LAW and REGULATIONS

2) Hopefully an Officer will stop you and cite you!

3) It is MORONS like you that makes it difficult for law abiding citizens to have legal tint on their vehicles. Please read the info on this site and only install legal tint on your vehicle.

Why 25-30%?

Tint under 30% is technically NOT ILLEGAL in Pennsylvania unless an officer testifies that the tint prevented him from seeing inside. Even glass tinted as low as 15% allows seeing inside of a vehicle.

However, it seems that at below 25% or 30% it is no longer a clear-cut black and white issue, but part of a legal 'grey area'.

This lack of a specific definition works for the misinformed police, and against citizens with legal tint.

Most of the other States have explicitly defined percentage requirements in their statutes in accordance with FMVSS205, and most allow as low as 25-30%. If and when our Legislators change the law, it will almost certainly define a similar percentage.

That is why, for the purposes of this discussion, we have made a very conservative estimate that tint below 25% or 30% may be illegal.
